
Lying in the heart of the Alps, the Aosta Valley is easy to get to, with all resorts within an hour and a half of either Turin, Milan or Geneva airports. Several airlines serve these routes and with short transfer times, the Aosta Valley makes a perfect weekend break as well as a longer holiday.
With many fantastic and varied resorts within close proximity, a multi-centre ski safari is easy to arrange too - so why not include Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and the Monterosa in your next ski holiday?
For those preferring to self-drive, the Aosta Valley resorts are about a 10 hour drive from Calais - the mountain panoramas as you approach Mont Blanc are stunning, but of course don't forget your snow chains.

How to get there
By air
With Turin, Milan and Geneva airports all within easy reach, the Aosta Valley resorts are among the easiest to get to from the UK. Several major airlines fly these routes and with short transfer times, a weekend or short break is entirely possible.
Travel times vary depending which resort in the valley you are travelling to - below are approximate travelling times to the main resorts of the Aosta Valley.
Monterosa (Champoluc and Gressoney) - Turin Caselle 1 hour 30 minutes, Milan Malpensa 2 hours, Geneva 3 hours
Cervinia - Turin 1 hour 40 minutes, Milan 2 hours 20 minutes, Geneva 2 hours 45 minutes
Courmayeur - Geneva 1 hour 20 minutes, Turin 1 hour 40 minutes, Milan 2 hours 20 minutes
La Thuile - Turin and Geneva, 2 hours
Pila - Turin 1 hour 30 minutes, Milan 3 hours

Airport transfers are available with European Transfer or Aosta Express - alternatively car hire can be arranged or for those on a budget, some resorts can be reached by public transport.

By road
Should you opt for the convenience of self-driving, the journey time from Calais to the Aosta Valley is approximately 10 hours - perfectly possible in one long travel day, or if you have the time, you may choose to break the journey with an overnight stop (or more) enroute to make it more leisurely.
Either drive through France to Geneva then through the Mont Blanc Tunnel which links Chamonix in France with Courmayeur in Italy. The views of Mont Blanc as you approach the tunnel are simply spectacular. Alternatively, drive through Switzerland to Martigny and through the Grand San Bernado Tunnel into Aosta. With either route, as the final part of the journey is on mountain roads, don't forget your snow chains.
Travelling within the valley itself is also very rewarding, with breathtaking views and spectacular scenery around every corner.

By public transport
It is possible to travel from the UK to the resorts of the Aosta Valley by train however it is time consuming and involves some changes.
During the ski season, Rail Europe operate the snow train from London St Pancras and Ebbsfleet International (Kent) to several locations in the French Alps, which takes approximately 15 hours. From here, rail connections can be made to Aosta town.
Alternatively, Eurostar operate overnight trains from London to St Pancras to the French Alps, where connections can be made to Aosta town.
