Cervinia from above

Ski standards and types in Cervinia

Beginners
Beginners can start on the village nursery slope served with carpet lifts. There are also easy runs at Plan Maison accessed by cable car, thus avoiding any difficulty with drag lifts and exiting chair-lifts. There’s an abundance of fantastic blues across the whole mountain to progress to, making this an ideal resort for quick-learning beginners and early intermediates. Even some of the more gentle reds are within reach for beginners making quick progress.

Intermediates
Cervinia is an intermediate skier’s dream, with a huge number of cruising blues and long, groomed red runs to play on – ideal for those who like motorway skiing on well-groomed, scenic pistes. As you look at the mountain, the left side is ideal for earlier intermediates, while more adventurous intermediates will prefer the right-hand side awhere you can ski the Ventina red all the way back to Cervinia. There’s also an 8-mile run down to Valtournenche through dramatic rocky scenery. Zermatt offers more still, including long, high-altitude glacier runs and the opportunity to ride Europe’s highest cable car up to the Klein Matterhorn, at an altitude of 3,883m.

Advanced/experts
While Cervinia is more limited for advanced skiers, there are some good short black runs just above the resort, and steeper terrain towards Cieloalto. Zermatt has plenty to offer more experienced skiers, with some steep runs under the Furi cable car. There’s also the option of heliskiing here.

Snowboarders
While other resorts have more to offer snowboarders, there’s still plenty to do here, with lots of wide runs that are ideal for beginners and intermediates, and an absence of drag lifts.  To find a half pipe, you’ll need to head to Zermatt, but the Indian Park snow park in Cervinia’s Fornet area is one of Italy’s best terrain parks and, at 3,000m, is one of the highest in Europe. Served by a 4 man chairlift, it features flat box, woops, parabolic curves, spirals and jumps, rails and jumping lines for riders of all levels.
