The landscape of the Aosta Valley lends itself perfectly to mountaineering - with mighty peaks including the Matterhorn, Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc) and Monte Rosa. It is a popular activity in summer and in winter, with numerous certified guides and excursions available.

In recent years, Via Ferrata - solid structures and vertical ladders some 20 or 30 metres long - has become an exciting new adventure activity in the Aosta Valley, with routes available from Valtournenche, Val de Lys, Valgrisenche or Val Veny. Rock climbing is a popular summer past-time and ski mountaineering is available in the winter months.
